Camp La-No-Che - Summer Camp - Trails

To earn the Hiker of La-No-Che Award, a hiker must hike at least three of the camp trails, including one at night.  The following scouts completed the Big Stump Trail, The Sulfur Springs Trail and the Cat's Eye trail.

Big Stump

By far the most impressive of the trails was the Big Stump trail.  This is a two hour hike through the muddy Blackwater Swamp.  Our scouts traversed the muddy waters sometimes over their heads to get to the Big Stump.  Hardly any clothes worn on this hike made it home.  Many a shoe and sock didn't even make it out of the swamp.  Everyone jumped into Lake Norris afterward to get the mud off.

Sulfur Springs Hike

Hiking to one of the camps natural wonders, our scouts observed the beautiful ecosystem around them on the Sulfur Springs hike. Some even took a sip of the water.  On the hike the lower ranked scouts identified ten plants and trees along the way to satisfy a First Class Rank requirement.

Hikers:  Adrian Q., Albert G. Alexander G., Anthony C., Ervin M., Frankie M., Matthew R. Nicky H., Patrick G. Tommy K., Leaders: Luis Quintana, Hector Maestri, Tom Kennedy, & Vidal Garcia.

Cateye Hike

Our troop hiked the cateye trail as our night hike.  The trail is marked by red and amber reflectors which the scouts followed using a flashlight.  When the cat eyes appear the scouts have completed the trail.  We saw a silver fox on this hike.

Hikers:  Adrian Q., Albert G. Alexander G., Ervin M., Frankie M., Nicky H., Tommy K.,Leaders: Hector Maestri, Tom Kennedy.
